Refuge Details
Our retreat ministry can be described as “hub and spoke.” We currently live in San Diego and have generous ministry partners who have made their beautiful properties available to us for retreats. Their generosity and hearts for ministry provide the setting for us to invite our guests to get away for refuge from whatever storm they are experiencing. When you are a guest at Someday Refuge, no matter the location you have chosen, you can expect us to combine rest, personally curated care in the form of debriefing, coaching, and joyful recreation with “5-star” hospitality. It is our prayer that our guests experience the abundant, generous love of God and find their healing and comfort in His care. It is Jesus himself who invites the weary to, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” Our vision, inspired by that invitation, is to create a safe place where people find a deep sense of community with a small group of people who understand their journey so they can “drop their packs” and be comforted by Christ.

Testimonials
"We rested in every way possible, and it was just what our souls needed."
What a gift this retreat was! We felt loved on, seen, cared for, and listened to – probably more than we even realized we needed it. We rested in every way possible, and it was just what our souls needed. Can’t recommend it enough, and already wondering when we can get back!

I arrived at the Someday Refuge Retreat completely burned out, not even sure what I truly needed. Brent and Michelle created such a welcoming, peaceful space that allowed the Lord to meet me in deep rest, renewing my heart with fresh joy for the journey ahead.

"One word stands out from our experience with Someday Retreat: Embrace."
Embrace the opportunity put your phone down and “get away from it all”, embrace all God has for you, and, if married, embrace the undivided time with your spouse. My husband and I came to the retreat not sure what to expect but knowing God had asked us to be there. The setting was lovely and peaceful, the meals were delicious and healthy, and our hosts, Brent and Michelle, were prayerful and attentive to our needs. We left the retreat feeling refreshed and cared for by our Heavenly Father. So glad we came!

"I needed this retreat to gain a perspective and heart space."
The blend of guided activities and time alone was perfect. I felt like the healthy, abundant food was an important part of the processing at Someday Refuge because what we were doing was such hard work. Our bodies needed the nutrition to process all that we were going through. My eyes rolled back in my head when I bit into the steak. 🙂 I was speechless. I hadn’t tasted decent beef in so long.

"Someday Refuge gave my husband and I a renewed desire for silence, solitude, simplicity and Sabbath."
Someday Refuge gave my husband and I a renewed desire for silence, solitude, simplicity and Sabbath. A call not to do more but to do less in order to make space to rest in Christ. I left with a new focus on self-care and armed with tools to achieve it.
Thank you so much for your supportive care, and sharing your wisdom. Thank you for lavishly catering to each of us specifically in both emotional and physical needs. Thank you for the amazing meals!
I highly recommend this retreat if you need time to regroup and refocus on your marriage and your heart.

"I feel certain words will not be adequate to express how incredibly life changing and eternally significant our experience was at the Someday Refuge Retreat. As a couple deeply involved in full-time ministry, my husband and I were in desperate need of rest, refuge, and restoration, and this retreat provided exactly that and so much more."
From the moment we arrived, we were met with the warmest hospitality by Brent and Michelle Lapp. Their kindness, care and wisdom were evident in every interaction. They were not only available and attentive to our needs but also created an environment that was safe, fun and spiritually enriching. We connected deeply with them both individually and as a couple. Michelle is a woman of the Word and prayer. She spoke truth in love and was not afraid to address whatever was needed, providing insight and wisdom that was both challenging and encouraging. Brent is a gentle, fun and compassionate servant-leader who showed much love and respect to Michelle as they led together, creating a beautiful example of a godly partnership.
One of the many highlights of the retreat was the beyond awesome dining experiences. We were treated to three meals daily, each one creative and of 5-star quality. The attention to detail and the delicious variety made every meal a delightful experience as we shared the food as well as deep, meaningful conversation. The accommodations were excellent in every way.
The retreat was exceptional and tremendously transformative because of the way Brent and Michelle were constantly prayerful and being led by the Spirit. They held their agenda with open hands, inviting the Lord to shape the retreat as we progressed throughout the week. It was clear that both Brent and Michelle have a passion and profound understanding of the Word and a genuine desire to see couples thrive both spiritually and relationally. They provided a safe and supportive space for us to work through our own material which had been recommended by our counselor. Their availability for debriefing afterwards was incredibly helpful, allowing us the freedom to process and reflect on our challenges and progress in meaningful ways. Brent and Michelle walked alongside us through the hard and dark as the Lord shone His light and love in places that desperately needed prayer, healing and renewal. They were living examples of 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, as they shared their lives with us, wept with us and rejoiced with us!
We left feeling refreshed, restored, and equipped to continue our journey with a renewed sense of hope, purpose and joy. I thank God for Brent and Michelle. I cannot not recommend highly enough the value and blessing of being a part of Someday Refuge! To God be the glory!

"Thank you, Brent and Michelle, for this experience of a lifetime. Our marriage and lives have been eternally changed."
This week was the perfect blend of everything you could possibly want in a retreat. Everything. One-on-one time with my spouse? Check. Time and space to draw near to Jesus? Check. Five-star accommodations–food, rooms, recreation, natural beauty–that people in ministry rarely experience? Check. Godly counsel and tools for marriage growth? Check. A mentor couple that is God-sent for this type of ministry? Check. Thank you, Brent and Michelle, for this experience of a lifetime. Our marriage and lives have been eternally changed.

Retreat Programming
Retreat programming is individually curated based on the unique needs of the guests. Brent brings his military background, expertise in coaching, recreation, and hospitality and Michelle brings her experience as a missionary and teacher, love language of cooking, education in Counseling and Guidance, debriefing training, and empathy to create a restorative balance of care and rest. In addition to their formal education, both Brent and Michelle are trained facilitators through both Re|Engage and Prepare and Enrich, which opens the door for couples to take an assessment and receive feedback and tools in nine key areas. Their retreats are not just for couples alone! Ongoing training in Trauma Informed Care and TCK care and debriefing add additional tools to their toolbox for individuals with unique personal journeys.
